My research interests include:

  • Small state foreign policy, in particular how small states overcome power asymmetry and vulnerability in international relations to promote their values and interests.
  • Neoclassical realism, in particular the interaction between material absolute, relative and relational power and cognitive, ideational and cultural factors.
  • International order & peaceful change, in particular how we can create a more just world order even if we accept that power politics will always be there and even dominate many decisions and developments.
  • Danish foreign policy, in particular how the interaction between a pragmatic and liberal-egalitarian political culture and geopolitical constraints shape Danish foreign policy.

I enjoy working with colleagues such as T.V. Paul, McGill University, Kai He, Griffith University, Revecca Pedi, University of Macedonia, Baldur Thorhallsson, University of Iceland, Godfrey Baldacchino, University of Malta, and Caroline Grøn, Aarhus University, as well as colleagues from the University of Copenhagen, including Rasmus Mariager, Christian Bueger, Peter Nedergaard, Cornelia Baciu, Ole Wæver, Nina Græger, and Bertel Heurlin.
